Artifact: Culture & Belonging Through Language: A Toolkit for Educators
As The HILL opens its doors for the first time, I’m excited by the opportunity to contribute to a school that values innovation, relevance, and community collaboration. The artifact below reflects the kind of instructional coaching I lead, centered on student voice, classroom culture, and the powerful role of language in helping students discover who they are.
Format: Slide Deck + Interactive Handouts
Audience: Teachers, Principals, Counselors (Cal State East Bay)
Purpose: Part of a trauma-informed certification cohort
Overview: Culture & Belonging Through Language: A Toolkit for Educators
This professional learning session was designed to help educators explore how identity, belonging, and culture shape student engagement and classroom climate, especially through the lens of language and self-expression. Facilitated for a group of principals, teachers, and mental health staff earning trauma-informed certification, this toolkit offers reflection prompts, instructional strategies, and classroom-ready tools to help teachers build inclusive learning spaces. For English Language Arts educators, it supports the essential work of helping students use language to explore who they are, connect with others, and engage meaningfully with texts and ideas.
Feedback from April Brown, who invited me to guest lecture and facilitate this PD for educators pursuing trauma-informed certification at Cal State East Bay.
